MAY
Monday 1.5.08
Both doors dismantled –
timber frames all to be renewed
(too old and cracked)
Long weekend and holidays – delay.
Friday 5.5.08
List of Parts sent to Sports Cars (Joburg) has arrived – details filed.
Saturday 6.5.08
Front shocks sent to Emgee Workshop, Johannesburg for overhaul.
Monday 8.5.08
Telephoned Chris Champion (MG Member who has restored MGs) re wood templates for main frame.
He will loan G his old ones. Now to find a woodworker for the job as G has no bandsaw.
Trying to locate a new wheel. Dave Alexander looking as is Allan at Sports Cars. May use the damaged one in the meantime.
Friday 12.5.08
Dismantled, checked sprayed and reassembled rear springs.
Sunday 14.5.08
Today we moved the chassis in place for the diff. The real work has now begun.
Friday 19.5.08
Still trying to find the ‘shock absorbers’ - much phoning and detective work taking place. Hopefully tomorrow something will come up
Gavin, to CT today, to see Chris Champion about borrowing his old TD body, wood templates.
Wednesday 24.5.08
Still trying to fit front shocks (a set loaned to him by Dave Alexander, from whom he bought the car) as a temporary measure until we manage to find the originals, or manage to get some elsewhere.
JUNE
Diff and back springs now fitted, but having problems.
It seems the diff does not fit the chassis ie. obviously the wrong diff for the TD!!! (it is too WIDE by small amount)
Phoned Dave who has another who will send it out to G via Geoff in Pinelands!!
Another unnecessary job…..Diff, springs etc all had to be dismantled to send back to Dave. Fortunately Geoff was coming to Hermanus and helped us out, as it is too big to fit into the Mercedes.
Sadly the shock absorbers sent to Joburg on the 6th May are missing and G is very worried. Postnet trying to locate them. Daily phone calls since the 9th have taken place, but to date still nothing definite.
7 weeks later we were contacted by the couriers, when they informed us that they had found the shock absorbers in Cape Town. By this time we had already purchased another reconditioned pair in England via Chris Champion (we therefore now own four shocks!!!).
(the reconditioned shocks)
